In schools, core subjects such as English, Math, and Science are often taught as a complete set. When new students join a form or move internally, the MIS Manager responsible for subject allocation must manually add them to each subject set. The ability to link one subject set to another is helpful in ensuring that no subject set is overlooked. However, if we could link subject sets directly to Forms (available in School Manager >> Forms), it would be a significant improvement. This way, when a student is added to a form, they would automatically be assigned to specific core subjects, while only elective or block subjects would need to be assigned separately to complete their allocation.
Thanks for sharing your idea — it connects well with something we’re already exploring for Curriculum Manager. We’re currently in the planning phase for a new Grouping or Banding feature to sit alongside the timetabling blocks we’re adding, with a potential implementation over the next 18 months. I want to find a better system which combines the benefits of Forms and Linked sets which are fully customisable.
The concept is to provide a single structure that could act as a replacement for both linked sets and forms, giving schools a flexible way to manage groups of students across multiple classes. Within this, we’re considering two behaviours:
Synchronized Group Block – all classes in the block share exactly the same student list. Adding or removing a pupil in one class applies to every class in the block.
Independent Group Block – the block still has a group rule that determines its base membership, but individual pupil changes can be made at the class level without affecting their membership in the overall group. For example, a pupil remains part of their form but can be moved out of one specific class without impacting their affiliation to that form.
Both block types could be static (membership maintained manually) or dynamic (membership updates automatically based on defined conditions).
We’re keen to make sure this approach works for different school structures and curriculum models, so your feedback would be really valuable.
Thanks
